In a recent tweet, journalist Rudy Galetti claimed that Everton have set their sights on Leeds United winger Wilfried Gnonto. It has been stated that the Toffees are eyeing a move for the Italian wide player next year.
Gnonto’s Recent Form In English Football
Gnonto has struggled to be productive with his performances at the West Yorkshire club this season. The 20-year-old has banged in one goal and grabbed one assist in 12 matches for Leeds during this campaign across all fronts.
The Italian sensation has been a reliable performer in the final third based on his average of 1.2 shots, 0.5 key passes and 1.3 dribbles per 90 minutes in the EFL Championship. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball in the opponent’s half as evidenced by his pass success rate of 84.2% in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Elland Road will run out in the summer of 2027. Hence, the Toffees will have to make a sizable offer if they are serious about recruiting the Italian talent.
Is Gnonto A Good Option For Everton Boss Sean Dyche?
Gnonto is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make a few driving runs with the ball out in the wide areas. He has got the eye to play a few decisive passes in the final third and can shoot the ball with power from long range.
The Italian is primarily a left-sided wide player but can also function as a right-winger or as a centre-forward if asked to do so. We can expect Gnonto to bring more firepower to Everton boss Sean Dyche’s attack. He is good enough to fight for a regular starting spot at Goodison Park in the coming seasons.
At 20, Gnonto has the potential to become a future star at the highest level which makes him a decent option for Everton to pursue in 2024. Hence, Dyche should consider going all out to recruit the Leeds United youngster when the transfer window commences at the start of next year.
However, there are some concerns over whether Gnonto would be able to cope with the physicality of Premier League football. Still, the pros outweigh the cons of recruiting the gifted starlet, so Everton would be wise to go all out to sign him next year.
