According to a report from The Standard, Chelsea might bring Andrey Santos back from Nottingham Forest in January because he hasn’t received sufficient game-time during his loan spell at the City Ground.
Forest’s coach, Steve Cooper, has been known for nurturing young talents, and the Blues initially believed that Santos’ move to the City Ground would aid his development. However, the loan hasn’t been successful, and the West London club retain the option to recall him in January if he hasn’t met a specific number of games played.
Underwhelming Loan Spell for Andrey Santos at Nottingham Forest
Andrey Santos, on loan from Chelsea, has faced a lackluster beginning to his spell at Nottingham Forest. Since his move in the summer, the 19-year-old has only played for a total of 96 minutes across two appearances for Forest.
Santos initially joined Stamford Bridge in January following a remarkable youth career at Brazilian club Vasco De Gama, where he debuted for the first team at a mere 16 years old. His final season with the South American club showcased his prowess, tallying eight goals and two assists in 33 appearances as a central midfielder. Subsequently, he linked up with Mauricio Pochettino‘s squad for their pre-season tour and was then loaned to Nottingham Forest. However, the recent developments have raise concerns for the West London club.
Should Pochettino Recall Andrey Santos to Chelsea?
Amid high expectations, Andrey Santos’ loan stint at Nottingham Forest has fallen short. Despite five league games since his arrival, Santos hasn’t stepped onto the field.
Loaning young talents like Santos aims to foster their development through first-team exposure. However, his absence from Forest’s starting lineup raises doubts about his progression.
Given Santos’s undeniable potential, his prolonged absence from competitive play seems like a missed chance for both player and club.
Yet, Pochettino’s midfield roster is already robust. Hence, the Blues might contemplate recalling Santos through a break clause and sending him to another club. This could unlock his potential and maximize his talents more effectively.
