In a recent tweet, journalist Florian Plettenberg mentioned that Brighton and Hove Albion talent Pascal Gross is gathering interest from Germany with Eintracht Frankfurt hoping to sign him in the future. It is believed that the German club have inquired about recruiting the talented playmaker from the Seagulls next year.
⚠️ News Pascal #Groß: Yes, Eintracht Frankfurt has inquired about the 32 y/o. There is contact as #SGE would like to get him next summer.
➡️ But at this stage it’s not realistic because of salary & transfer fee
➡️ Eintracht bosses will keep monitoring the player's situation.… pic.twitter.com/qv0RHzemyg— Florian Plettenberg (@Plettigoal) November 22, 2023
Gross’s Impressive Run Of Form In English Football
The 32-year-old has been a decent performer at the centre of Roberto De Zerbi’s midfield after he put in a string of eye-catching displays for them in the Premier League. Gross has registered three goals and one assist in 14 matches for the Seagulls this season across various competitions.
The veteran midfielder has caught the eye by averaging 1.2 tackles, 0.5 interceptions, 1.5 shots, 2.2 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He has even been accurate with his ball distribution after making 89.7% of his attempted passes in the English top flight (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Brighton will run out in the summer of 2025. Hence, Brighton will have to cash in on him next summer or else risk losing him on a free transfer the following year.
Can Brighton Boss Roberto De Zerbi Afford To Lose Gross?
Gross is a good tackler of the ball and can earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He can shoot the ball with power from long range and has got the vision to engineer a few inviting chances for his teammates in the attacking end of the pitch.
The German midfield ace is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet. He mainly functions as a box-to-box midfielder but can also fill in as a defensive midfielder or as an attacking midfielder if told to do so by his manager.
At 32, Gross has still got a few years left in him to play at a high level. However, Brighton might be enticed to cash in on him next year if they are planning to build a strong squad for the future.
With all things considered, De Zerbi would be wise to keep hold of Gross until the end of this campaign before making a decision on the player’s future at the Amex Stadium.
