In a recent report, journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed that Brighton and Hove Albion forward Evan Ferguson is on the radar of Manchester United ahead of the January transfer window. It has been claimed that the Red Devils are eager to recruit the Irish striker from the Seagulls next year.
Ferguson’s Impressive Numbers At Brighton This Season
Ferguson is having a decent campaign at the English club after he put in a handful of productive displays as the focal point of Brighton’s attack. The 19-year-old has found the back of the net on five occasions in 14 matches for the Seagulls this season across various competitions.
The talented teenager has led the line well at times and deserves credit for averaging 1.6 shots and 0.4 key passes per game in the Premier League. He has even been tidy when distributing possession deep inside the opponent’s half after completing 88% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the American Express Community Stadium will run out in the summer of 2029. Hence, Brighton has no immediate need to cash in on him this January.
Can Brighton Boss Robert De Zerbi Afford To Lose Ferguson?
Ferguson is proficient at finding space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He can be a decent finisher in front of the opponent’s goal when he is playing at the top of his game.
The Northern Irish talent can even create the odd chance for his teammates and is an accurate passer of the ball on the attacking third of the pitch. The gifted starlet can even make a few clever runs with the ball. However, he is still quite raw and would need time to prove his worth as a consistent performer at the highest level.
Ferguson is currently an important member of Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi’s senior team. At 19, he has the potential to become a world-class forward someday. Thus, the Seagulls simply cannot afford to lose Ferguson in the upcoming January transfer window as he could help them compete for a European spot in the Premier League this season.
