In a recent report, Cadena SER journalist Bruno Alemany tipped Barcelona to go for Everton midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure. Alemany urged the Catalan club to sign the Mali midfielder from the Toffees next year.
Doucoure’s Decent Numbers At Goodison Park
Doucoure is enjoying a decent campaign at Everton and has done well to put in a handful of impressive displays for them in the final third. The Mali sensation has found the back of the net four times and picked up one assist in 15 matches for the Toffees this season across all fronts.
The 30-year-old has been a reliable performer in the opponent’s half based on his average of 1.5 tackles, 0.7 interceptions, 0.6 clearances, 1.7 shots, 1.3 key passes and 1.2 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He was even tidy when distributing possession after making 82.3% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Goodison Park will run out in the summer of 2025. However, Everton‘s recent financial struggles could see them cash in on Doucoure this January or at the end of this campaign.
Should Everton Boss Sean Dyche Let Doucoure Go?
Doucoure is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure possession back for his team. He usually works hard for his team defensively and is a strong runner with the ball.
The Mali international can shoot the ball with venom from long range and has got the vision to create a few decent chances for his teammates in the final third. He is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also fill in as an attacking midfielder or as a defensive midfielder if told to do so by his manager.
Doucoure has got plenty of experience in the Premier League under his belt and has proven himself to be a crowd-favourite during his time at Goodison Park. He remains one of the most important members of Everton head coach Sean Dyche’s match-day squad.
At 30, Doucoure might still have a few good seasons left in him to play at his best. However, Everton‘s recent struggles could force them to let the Mali talent go next year and promote some of their youth players in the coming seasons.
