Barcelona Could Be Offered A Chance To Sign This Tottenham Star: Should Xavi Go For Him?

In a recent report, Sport mentioned that Barcelona could be offered a chance to sign Tottenham Hotspur star Cristian Romero. It has been stated that the Catalan club could be given a chance to land the Argentine defender if they are willing to let Raphinha join Spurs next year.

Raphinha’s Impressive Form At The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium This Season

The 25-year-old has enjoyed a solid campaign at the North London club after he put in a series of impressive displays for them on the defensive end of the pitch. Romero has featured in 11 matches for Tottenham this season, scoring a couple of goals across all fronts.

The Argentine sensation has been a decent performer inside his half based on his average of 2.0 tackles, 1.5 interceptions and 3.8 clearances per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even been excellent when distributing possession from the back after completing 92.2% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).

His current deal at the London club will run out in the summer of 2027. Thus, Barca will have to give up someone of Raphinha‘s quality if they want to stand a chance of securing Romero’s services next year.

Should Barcelona Boss Xavi Go For Romero?

Romero can get stuck in with a few crunching tackles to make life difficult for the opposition inside his half. He usually clears the danger when needed and can make a few timely interceptions for his side on the defensive third of the pitch. The Argentine sensation is even proficient at playing his way out from the back.

We can expect Romero to enhance the quality of Barcelona boss Xavi’s first XI considerably. He might even help the Catalan club challenge for some major trophies in the coming seasons.

At 25, Romero is about to enter the peak stage of his playing career and is well-equipped to be a success story at the Nou Camp. Thus, Xavi would be wise to go for him if given the chance to sign him next year.
