In a recent interview with The Tottenham Way Podcast, journalist Tom Allnutt revealed that Barcelona are long-term admirers of Tottenham Hotspur ace Giovani Lo Celso. Allnutt said,
“It’s worth saying by the way that if Spurs put him up for sale in January there will be a queue of clubs ready to take him, particularly back in Spain. Barcelona have always had an interest in Lo Celso, and he’s very much on the list of the top four or five, Atletico, Sevilla, Valencia, Villarreal, all of these clubs have seen Lo Celso doing it week-in, week-out in La Liga.”
Lo Celso’s Recent Form In North London
Lo Celso has served as an important presence in Angelos Postecoglu’s squad this season after missing a few games due to a hamstring injury. The Argentine sensation has registered one goal in five matches for Spurs this season on all fronts.
The Rosario-born talent was a decent performer in the opponent’s half based on his average of 0.8 shots and 1.0 key passes per game in the Premier League. He has taken care of the ball when distributing possession in the final third, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 90.9% in league football (stats via whoscored).
Should Barcelona Boss Xavi Move In For Lo Celso?
Lo Celso is a solid tackler of the ball and can strike the ball with venom from long range. He has got the vision to engineer a few meaningful opportunities for his teammates to find the back of the net.
The Argentine sensation is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also fill in as a box-to-box midfielder or as a right-sided wide player if told to do so.
Lo Celso will bring more firepower to Barcelona boss Xavi’s attack. He is good enough to increase competition for places within Xavi’s match-day squad. Hence, it makes sense for the Catalan club to move in for him when the transfer window commences at the start of next year.
