In a recent interview with Caughtoffside, renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano mentioned that Arsenal could try to land Aston Villa star Douglas Luiz in the upcoming winter transfer window. Romano said,
“Douglas Luiz keeps being linked strongly with Arsenal ahead of January, but I think it’s going to be a tough one.
“It reminds me of the Moises Caicedo situation last January transfer window when Arsenal really wanted Caicedo – they made multiple bids to sign him and then at the end it was not possible.
“I still think Arsenal will try to sign Douglas Luiz, even if it will be very difficult as Aston Villa don’t want to sell him.”
Luiz’s Impressive Run Of Form In Premier League Football
The 25-year-old has been a decent performer at the heart of Unai Emery’s midfield as he has put in a run of solid displays in the Premier League. Luiz has registered six goals and picked up three assists in 20 matches for the West Midlands club this season across all fronts.
The Brazilian sensation has proven his worth at the centre of the park by averaging 2.3 tackles, 0.5 interceptions, 0.7 clearances, 1.5 shots, 1.2 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per 90 minutes in Premier League football. He has even been accurate when distributing possession from midfield after making 88.8% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
What Will Luiz Bring To Arsenal?
Luiz is a tough-tackling midfielder who can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t hesitate to clear the danger when needed and can shoot the ball well from long range.
The Brazilian talent is a good dribbler with the ball as well and can engineer a few promising chances for his teammates in the final third. He is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also fill in as a holding midfielder if told to do so.
Luiz will bring more quality and depth to Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta‘s midfield department. He has what it takes to earn a regular starting spot at the Emirates Stadium in the coming years. At 25, the Brazilian sensation will only get better with each season which makes him a worthy target for the Gunners to pursue when the transfer window reopens this January.
