In a recent report, journalist Pete O’Rourke claimed that Arsenal are unlikely to land Aston Villa star Douglas Luiz this January. It has been mentioned that the Gunners have opted to drop their interest in recruiting the Brazilian midfielder from the Villans in the upcoming winter transfer window.
Luiz’s Impressive Run Of Form In The Premier League
Luiz is enjoying a great season at Villa Park as he has been responsible for putting in several impressive performances for the West Midlands outfit at the centre of the park. The 25-year-old has found the back of the net on six occasions and earned a couple of assists in 19 matches for Aston Villa during this campaign in multiple competitions.
The Brazilian talent has been a decent presence in both halves and deserves a ton of credit for averaging 2.3 tackles, 0.8 clearances, 1.7 shots, 1.2 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball from midfield after making 88.4% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
Luiz’s current contract at the Midlands club will run out in the summer of 2026. Hence, there is no immediate need for Unai Emery to cash in on the Brazilian talent when the transfer window commences this January.
Arsenal Are Unlikely To Land Luiz From Aston Villa: Big Boost For Emery?
Luiz is a good tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to earn possession back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed and can shoot the ball with venom from long range.
The Brazilian sensation has got the vision to create a few promising chances for his teammates in the final third. He is good dribbler with the ball when playing with confidence on the pitch. At the moment, Luiz remains one of the most influential members of Unai Emery’s match-day squad.
Luiz is currently an irreplaceable presence in Aston Villa‘s first team. If Arsenal are unlikely to move in for the Brazilian, it would be a big boost for the West Midlands club as they need to hang on to him at least until the end of this campaign.
