In a recent segment on Youtube, renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano mentioned that Arsenal are keen on recruiting Aston Villa star Douglas Luiz in the upcoming winter transfer window. Romano said,
“I can confirm that Arsenal really, really want and appreciate Douglas Luiz. It’s a player they have on the list for more than two years, they consider Douglas Luiz the perfect midfielder for their idea, for the intensity, for the quality he can bring, so many different factors make him top of the list for Arsenal.”
“The problem remains Aston Villa. Aston Villa have no intention to let him go in January, so it’s going to be really difficult. It would take a really important proposal to tempt Aston Villa, so not an easy one at all, but for sure Douglas Luiz is on Arsenal’s list as a midfielder for the present and the future.”
Luiz’s Impressive Run Of Form In The Premier League
Luiz is enjoying a solid campaign at Villa Park as he has managed to put in a string of influential displays at the centre of Aston Villa’s midfield. The Brazilian sensation has scored six goals and grabbed a couple of assists in 19 matches for the Villans this season in all competitions.
The 25-year-old has been a positive influence in both halves based on his average of 2.3 tackles, 0.8 clearances, 1.7 shots, 1.2 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even been tidy with his ball distribution after making 88.4% of his attempted passes in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
What Will Luiz Add To Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta’s Side?
Luiz is a tough-tackling midfielder who can read the danger well to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind clearing the danger when needed and is a good passer of the ball as well.
The Brazilian midfield ace can strike the ball purely and with power from long range and can make a few energetic runs with the ball as well. He has mainly played as a box-to-box midfielder for Aston Villa this season but can also fill in as a holding midfielder if told to do so.
Luiz will add more bite and steel to Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta’s midfield. He has what it takes to earn a regular starting spot at the Emirates Stadium next year. Hence, Arteta should focus on bringing the talented playmaker to the North London club this January.
