In a recent segment on Youtube, transfer expert Steve Kay mentioned that Arsenal are big admirers of Aston Villa star Douglas Luiz. Kay said,
“There have been a few players. Douglas Luiz is one that we all know Mikel Arteta loves a lot. He’s someone we tried to get in the summer and by all accounts Luiz wanted to come, Aston Villa just wouldn’t let him go, Unai Emery is a big fan of Luiz and they love Luiz,”
Luiz’s Impressive Run Of Form In English Football
Luiz has anchored the midfield with conviction for the Midlands club as he has been responsible for putting in a series of impressive performances in the Premier League. The Brazilian talent has scored six times and picked up a couple of assists in 19 matches for Aston Villa this season across all competitions.
The 25-year-old has proved his worth at the centre of the park by averaging 2.3 tackles, 0.8 clearances, 1.7 shots, 1.2 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He has even been tidy when distributing possession from midfield after completing 88.4% of his attempted passes in the English top flight (stats via whoscored).
Should Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta Launch A Move For Luiz?
Luiz is a tough-tackling midfielder who can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the offensive and can even strike the ball with venom from long range. The Brazilian has the vision to cut open the opponent’s defence with a good pass.
At the moment, Luiz is playing some of the best football of his Aston Villa career. Hence, Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta would be wise to try everything in his power to lure him to the North London club next year.
At 25, Luiz has his best years ahead of him, so Arteta should launch a move to bring him to the Emirates Stadium this January or at the end of this season.
