In a recent print edition, Corriere dello Sport (October 11, Page 11) claimed that West Ham United midfielder Tomas Soucek is on the radar of Inter Milan. It has been stated that the Milan giants are eyeing a move to sign him from the Hammers next year.
Soucek’s Impressive Run Of Form In Premier League Football
Soucek is enjoying another impressive campaign at the London Stadium after putting in a string of solid displays at the centre of David Moyes’ midfield. The 28-year-old has found the back of the net four times and secured one assist in ten matches for West Ham this season in various competitions.
The Czech Republic international has been a consistent performer at the centre of the park based on his average of 1.6 tackles, 1.1 interceptions, 3.3 clearances, 1.7 shots and 0.9 key passes per 90 minutes in the Premier League. However, he has lacked quality when distributing the ball from midfield after completing only 71.2% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the East London club will expire at the end of this campaign which could open the door for Inter Milan to snap him up on a free transfer next summer.
Can West Ham United Boss David Moyes Afford To Lose Soucek?
Soucek is a good tackler of the ball and can make a few important interceptions for his side at the centre of the park. He doesn’t hesitate to clear the danger when needed and has got a knack for scoring goals from midfield. Soucek is primarily a holding midfielder but can also operate as a box-to-box midfielder if told to do so.
The Czech sensation can even engineer a few decent chances for his teammates up top. He is currently one of the first names in David Moyes’ teamsheet.
Soucek has been one of West Ham‘s most reliable performers over the past few years. Hence, the Hammers simply cannot afford to lose him this January or at the end of this season.
The East London club would be better off trying everything they can to tie Soucek down to a new contract. At 28, Soucek is still in his prime and could help West Ham challenge for a major trophy in the not-too-distant future.
