In a recent report, Fichajes mentioned that West Ham United are eager to land Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay this January. It has been stated that the Hammers are showing interest in the Scottish talent during the winter transfer window.
McTominay’s Reduced Role At Old Trafford This Season
McTominay has struggled to earn regular playing time at Man United during this campaign. However, the Scotland international has done well to score two goals in six matches for the Red Devils this season in multiple competitions.
The 26-year-old has made most of his appearances as a substitute which explains why he is averaging 0.8 tackles, 0.6 interceptions and 0.4 clearances per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has been careful when distributing possession from midfield based on his pass completion rate of 82.8% in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
McTominay is under contract at the Mancunian club until the summer of 2025. However, the lack of game time could give West Ham a chance to lure him to the London Stadium this winter.
Is McTominay The Right Fit For West Ham United Boss David Moyes?
McTominay loves a tackle and can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his side at the centre of the park. He doesn’t mind clearing the danger when the opposition are on the offensive.
The Scottish talent is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also function as a centre-back or as a box-to-box midfielder if told to do so. He is currently surplus to requirements at Old Trafford and could benefit from a change of scenery in search of more game time in the future.
McTominay would inject more bite and steel into West Ham United head coach David Moyes’ midfield. He might even help the Hammers compete across all fronts over the next few years.
At 26, McTominay is about to enter the peak stage of his career which makes him a good fit for the East London club’s needs at the moment. Moyes would fancy his chances of getting the best out of the Scottish midfield ace in the coming seasons. Therefore, West Ham should try everything they can to lure him to the London Stadium at the start of next year.
