In a recent report, Football.London mentioned that Tottenham Hotspur are ready to rekindle their interest in Bournemouth star Llyod Kelly. It has been stated that Spurs are eyeing a move to land the English centre-half in the upcoming January transfer window.
Kelly’s Impressive Season In Premier League Football
Kelly has made a decent start to this campaign after producing a few impressive displays for the Cherries on the defensive end of the field. The Bristol-born talent has been involved in five matches for Bournemouth this season but has failed to score or register an assist for them across all competitions.
The 25-year-old has been a rock at the back and deserves a ton of credit for averaging 1.0 tackles, 0.8 interceptions and 2.3 clearances per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even been accurate when distributing possession from inside his half based on his pass success rate of 80.6% in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the English club will expire at the end of this campaign. Thus, it makes sense for Spurs to arrange a cut-price move for him in the winter transfer period.
Will Kelly Be A Good Option For Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglu?
Kelly can get stuck in with some solid tackles to make life tough for the opposition attackers. He can scan the danger quickly and can make a few timely interceptions for his team on the defensive end of the field.
The English talent usually puts his foot through the ball when needed and is even proficient at playing his way out from the back. He mainly functions as a central defender but can also fill in as a left-back if asked to do so by his manager.
We can expect Kelly to bring more bite and steel to Tottenham head coach Angelos Postecoglu’s defence. He might even help Spurs challenge for some major honours over the next few years.
All in all, Kelly would be a decent option for the North London club to consider when the transfer window reopens at the start of next year. At 25, he would only get better in the coming seasons and is no doubt good enough to enhance the quality of Tottenham’s match-day squad.
