In a recent report, InterLive claimed that Tottenham Hotspur could move in for AC Milan playmaker Hakan Calhanoglu. It is believed that Spurs are eyeing a move to recruit the Turkish playmaker next summer.
Calhanoglu’s Impressive Season At San Siro
Calhanoglu is enjoying a decent campaign at the Italian club as he has put in a string of influential displays for them at the centre of the park. The Turkish midfield ace found the back of the net on four occasions and earned one assist in 12 matches for AC Milan this season across all competitions.
The 29-year-old has proven his worth at both ends of the field by averaging 2.2 tackles, 0.6 interceptions, 2.0 shots and 1.8 key passes per game in Serie A. He has even been careful when distributing possession from midfield after completing 91.7% of his attempted passes in the Italian first division (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Milan club will run out in the summer of 2027. Thus, it won’t be easy for Spurs to sign him on a cut-price deal next year.
Is Calhanoglu A Decent Option For Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglu?
Calhanoglu is a good tackler of the ball and can make some timely interceptions for his team in the middle of the park. He can shoot the ball with venom from long range and is a decent dribbler with the ball as well.
The Turkish sensation is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also serve as a box-to-box midfielder or play in the number ten position if asked to do so. However, only time will tell whether he can adapt to the physical nature and high intensity of English football if Tottenham manage to land him in 2024.
Calhanoglu will add more quality to Spurs boss Angelos Postecoglu’s midfield department. He is good enough to earn a regular starting spot at the North London club in the coming seasons.
At 29, Calhanoglu is playing in his prime and is a good enough to make an instant impact at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium if he can make a smooth transition to life in the Premier League. He might even help the London giants compete across various competitions over the next couple of years.
