Vermeeren’s Decent Numbers In The Jupiler Pro League
Vermeeren is enjoying an impressive campaign in Belgium football as he has put in several productive performances at the centre of Royal Antwerp’s defence. The 18-year-old found the back of the net once and earned five assists in 15 matches for the Belgian club this season in all competitions.
The Belgian talent has been a positive influence at both ends of the field and has done well to average 1.8 tackles, 1.5 interceptions, 1.3 clearances, 0.5 shots, 1.6 interceptions and 1.3 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Jupiler Pro League. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball from midfield after making 87.9% of his attempted passes in the top tier of Belgian football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Belgian club will run out in the summer of 2026. Hence, it won’t be easy for Spurs to sign him on the cheap next year.
Tottenham Hotspur Are Facing Stiff Competition For Vermeeren: Is He A Prospect For The Future?
Vermeeren is a good tackler of the ball and can make a few timely interceptions for his team in the middle of the park. He usually clears the danger when needed and can even play his way out from midfield.
The Lier-born talent can strike the ball with venom from long range and is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet. He is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also fill in as a defensive midfielder if told to do so.
Vermeeren has got the potential to become a future star in European football and would be a major coup for Tottenham if Angelos Postecoglu can find a way to bring him on board in 2024.
At 18, there is no doubt that Vermeeren is a prospect to watch out for in the future, so the North London club should try and get a deal for him this January or next summer.
