In a recent report, Fichajes revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are eager to seal a move for Lille forward Jonathan David. It has been stated that Spurs are hoping to bring the Canadian striker to the Premier League next year.
David’s Impressive Start To This Ligue 1 Campaign
David has made a decent start to this Ligue 1 campaign as he has been responsible for putting in a run of impressive displays for Lille in the final third. The 23-year-old has scored four times and picked up one assist in 12 matches for the French outfit this season in all competitions.
The Canada international has led the line well for Lille based on his average of 2.1 shots, 0.9 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per game in Ligue 1. He has even distributed the ball relatively well in the opponent’s half as evidenced by his pass success rate of 80.7% in the French top tier (stats via whoscored).
David is under contract at Lille until the summer of 2025. Thus, Spurs could potentially sign him on a cut-price deal at the end of this campaign.
Should Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglu Move In For David?
David can create a yard of space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He can be a good finisher in front of the opponent’s goal when he is playing with confidence on the pitch.
The Canadian talent can even create the odd chance for his teammates and is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet. Hence, he would be a good fit for Angelos Postecoglu’s style of play at Tottenham as long as he can make a smooth transition to life in England.
David would bring more pace and goals to Spurs‘ attack. He might even help the North London club sustain a top-four push in the Premier League every season.
At 23, David will only improve with each year and would be a great signing for Tottenham this winter or at the end of this season. With all things considered, Spurs should think about moving in for David if they want to have a strong squad for the future. However, he would need some time to adjust to life in the Premier League.
