In a recent interview with Dutch outlet ED, the agent of Santiago Gimenez revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are among the clubs hoping to land the Feyenoord striker. The Mexican forward’s agent said,
“Santi is one of the top ten (most coveted) players in Europe.
“So even Tottenham Hotspur (are interested). Many clubs (want him). Milan, Inter, Napoli and Lazio. Atletico were very interested.”
Gimenez’s Impressive Numbers In Dutch Football This Season
Gimenez has enjoyed an excellent campaign in the Dutch Eredivise so far as he has managed to put in several match-winning displays for Feyenoord in the final third. The Argentina-born talent has participated in nine matches for the Dutch outfit this season, scoring 12 goals and grabbing a couple of assists across all competitions.
The 22-year-old proved his worth as a reliable performer up top by averaging 4.4 shots, 1.4 key passes and 1.0 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Dutch Eredivisie. However, he has lacked quality when distributing possession in the final third based on his pass success rate of 71.9% in the Dutch top tier (stats via whoscored).
Is Gimenez The Right Fit For Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglu?
Gimenez can create a yard of space for himself and usually keeps his shots on-target. He has proven his worth as a decent finisher in the final third.
The Mexican sensation can even engineer some meaningful openings for others around him and is a good dribbler with the ball as well. However, he needs to figure out a way to improve his link-up play in and around the opponent’s penalty box.
We can expect Gimenez to add more firepower to Tottenham boss Angelos Postecoglu’s attack. He would offer some decent competition for Richarlison and Heung-min Son at the North London club next year.
At 22, Gimenez has the potential to become one of the best players in his position someday. Hence, he would be a great fit for Spurs’ needs in the long run. However, only time will tell whether the Mexican talent can cope with the physical side and high intensity of Premier League football if Tottenham manage to get a deal done for him soon.
