In a recent report, Defensa Central mentioned that FC Porto forward Mehdi Taremi is keen on joining Real Madrid. It is understood that Los Blancos are showing interest in acquiring the services of the Iranian sensation next year.
Taremi’s Impressive Numbers In Portuguese Football This Season
The 31-year-old is having a decent campaign at the Portuguese club after putting in a handful of productive displays for them as the focal point of their attack. Taremi has scored three goals and picked up three assists in 13 matches for Porto this season across all fronts.
The Iran international has been a consistent performer in the final third based on his average of 1.3 shots, 1.1 key passes and 0.6 dribbles per game in Liga Portugal. However, he needs to work on improving his ball distribution up top, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 74.5% in the Portuguese top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Portuguese club will expire at the end of this campaign. Thus, it makes sense for Los Blancos to sign him on a cut-price deal this January or on a free transfer next summer.
Will Taremi Be A Good Option For Real Madrid?
Taremi is proficient at finding some space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He has got the vision to create some decent chances for his teammates on the offensive end of the pitch.
The Iran international is a good dribbler with the ball as well and can chip in by scoring and creating some important goals for his team. He is primarily a centre-forward but can also fill in as a left-sided wide player if asked to do so by his manager.
However, at 31, Taremi is a player on the decline. Still, it makes sense for Real Madrid to sign him on a short-term deal this winter or at the end of this season. He is good enough to increase competition for places within their match-day squad.
We can expect Taremi to bring more firepower to Los Blancos‘ frontline. He might even help the Madrid outfit compete across all fronts over the next few years.
