In a recent report, i News mentioned that Newcastle United are showing interest in Brentford forward Ivan Toney. It has been stated that the Magpies are among the clubs hoping to land the English talent next year.
Toney’s Decent Run Of Form In English Football Last Season
Toney had a brilliant campaign at Brentford recently but is suspended from all club activities (through sports court–cross competition) until January 17, 2024. The 27-year-old banged in 21 goals and earned five assists in 35 matches for the Bees last season across all fronts.
The English sensation led the line well at the Gtech Community Stadium based on his average of 2.8 shots, 0.8 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. However, he was a bit careless when distributing the ball in the final third as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 62% in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
His current deal at Brentford will run out in the summer of 2025. Thus, Newcastle will have to make a convincing offer if they want to sign him in the upcoming January transfer window.
Is Toney A Good Option For Newcastle United?
Toney can engineer a yard of space for himself to get a few shots in at goal. He can be a good finisher in the final third when he is playing at the top of his game. The English sensation can even create the odd chance for his teammates up top and is a decent dribbler with the ball as well.
Hence, we can expect him to add a lot of firepower to Newcastle boss Eddie Howe’s attack. He is good enough to challenge Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak for a regular starting spot at St. James’ Park next year.
At 27, Toney is about to enter his prime which makes him an excellent option for the Magpies to consider this January or at the end of this campaign. He already knows the Premier League well by now and won’t take any time to settle into life at the Tyneside club.
All in all, Howe would be wise to engineer a move to bring Toney to St. James’ Park next year as he could help the Magpies challenge across all fronts in the coming seasons.
