In a recent report, The Daily Mail mentioned that Brentford striker Ivan Toney is keen on joining Arsenal next year. It has been claimed that the English forward fancies a move to the Gunners with Mikel Arteta eager to strengthen his attack next year.
Toney’s Impressive Run Of Form In The Premier League Last Season
Toney had a brilliant spell at the Gtech Community Stadium last season when he put in several match-winning displays as the focal point of Brentford’s attack. The Northampton-born talent scored 21 goals and secured five assists in 35 matches for the Bees in the previous campaign across all competitions.
The 27-year-old gave a good account of himself by averaging 2.8 shots, 0.8 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in Premier League football. However, he needs to find a way to improve his link-up play up top based on his pass success rate of 62% in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Brentford will run out in the summer of 2025. However, he is currently suspended through sports court – cross competition until January 27, 2024.
Should Arsenal Head Coach Mikel Arteta Move In For Toney?
Toney can generate a lot of power with his shot attempts and has proven himself to be a capable finisher in front of the opponent’s goal. He can even create the odd chance for his teammates in the final third but needs to time his runs well in behind the opposition backline. Furthermore, the English talent also has to find a way to improve his ball distribution up top.
Standing at 1.85m, the Brentford centre-forward can use his strong frame to hold possession up for his team.
Toney is far from a finished product but is a natural finisher which is something that the Gunners desperately need at the moment. We can expect him to add more firepower to Mikel Arteta‘s frontline.
At 27, Toney is about to enter his prime soon and is capable of making an instant impact at the North London club if Arteta can devise a way to bring him on board next year.
With all things considered, Arteta would be wise to move in for Toney as he could help Arsenal compete across all fronts in the coming seasons.
