Barcelona Set To Rival Manchester City For This Talented Winger: Should Xavi Snap Him Up?

In a recent report, Sport stated that Barcelona are set to rival Manchester City for Paris Saint-Germain winger Xavi Simons who is currently playing on loan at Red Bull Leipzig. It has been claimed that the Catalan club are keeping tabs on the Dutch talent ahead of a potential move in the future.

Simons’ Impressive Loan Spell In Bundesliga

Simons is having a decent loan spell at the Red Bull Arena this season as he has already put in a run of fruitful displays for Leipzig in the final third. The 20-year-old has registered three goals and four assists in nine matches for the German club during this campaign across all fronts.

The Amsterdam-born talent has been a consistent performer out on the flanks based on his average of 1.5 shots, 1.2 key passes and 1.3 dribbles per 90 minutes in Bundesliga. He has even distributed the ball relatively well after completing 78.6% of his attempted passes in the German first division (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at his parent club PSG will run out in the summer of 2027. Thus, Barca will have to pay a big fee if they want to win the race to sign Simons next year.

Should Barcelona Boss Xavi Snap Simons Up Next Year?

Simons is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can create some inviting chances for his teammates in the opponent’s half. He can strike the ball with power and accuracy from long range.

The Dutch sensation has contributed by scoring and creating his fair share of goals in the final third. He is primarily a right-sided wide player but can also function as a left-winger or play in the number ten position if told to do so.

At 20, Simons has the potential to become a generational talent. Hence, he would be an excellent signing for Barcelona to pull off in the long run. Xavi would be the perfect man to oversee his development at the Nou Camp in the coming years. Therefore, the Catalan club should focus on snapping the Dutch prospect up this January or at the end of this campaign.
