Barcelona Remain Keen Admirers Of This Bayern Munich Full-Back: Should Xavi Snap Him Up?

In a recent report, ESPN mentioned that Barcelona remain keen admirers of Bayern Munich full-back Joshua Kimmich. It has been stated that the Catalan club are still showing interest in recruiting the German talent next year after failing to land him earlier this summer.

Kimmich’s Impressive Form At The Allianz Arena This Season

Kimmich has enjoyed a positive start to this campaign after putting in a few impressive displays for Bayern in the Bundesliga. The 28-year-old has picked up five assists in 11 appearances for the German outfit this season on all fronts.

The German sensation has been a positive influence at both ends of the field based on his average of 2.3 tackles, 1.0 interceptions, 1.3 shots, 2.9 crosses and 3.1 key passes per 90 minutes in Bundesliga. He has even been careful when distributing possession after completing 90.4% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at the Allianz Arena will run out in the summer of 2025. Hence, Barcelona could potentially land him on a cut-price deal at the end of this campaign.

Should Barcelona Boss Xavi Snap Kimmich Up?

Kimmich is a solid tackler of the ball and can sense the danger well to secure possession back for his team inside his half. He is a decent crosser of the ball and generates a lot of power with his shot attempts from long range.

The Germany international has got the vision to engineer a few promising chances for his teammates up top. He has mainly functioned as a defensive midfielder for Bayern this season but is naturally a right-back.

Someone of Kimmich’s quality and skillset will no doubt enhance the quality of Barcelona head coach Xavi’s first XI. He is more than capable of earning a regular starting spot at the Nou Camp next season.

At 28, the German has still got plenty of football left in him to play at his best. Thus, it makes a lot of sense for the Catalan club to go all out to snap Kimmich up in next summer’s transfer window when he will just have just one year remaining in his Bayern contract.
