In a recent tweet, journalist Gabriel Sa mentioned that Barcelona are showing interest in Sao Paulo defender Lucas Beraldo. It has been stated that the Catalan club are eyeing a move to secure the services of the Brazilian centre-back.

Beraldo’s Impressive Rise In Brasileirao
The 19-year-old enjoyed a decent campaign in Brazilian football last season as he put in a series of impressive displays at the centre of Sao Paolo’s defence. Beraldo has made 42 senior appearances for the Brazilian outfit thus far, scoring one goal across all competitions.
The Brazilian talent was a rock at the back and did well to average 1.4 tackles, 1.0 interceptions and 4.1 clearances per 90 minutes in the Brasileirao. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball from inside his half after completing 89.2% of his attempted passes in the top tier of Brazilian football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Sao Paolo will expire in the summer of 2026. Hence, it won’t be easy for Barca to land Beraldo on the cheap next year.
Barcelona Are Showing Interest In Beraldo: Is He A Prospect For The Future?
Beraldo is a good tackler of the ball and can scan the danger quickly to earn the ball back for his side on the defensive third of the pitch. He doesn’t hesitate to put his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot and is even proficient at playing his way out from the back.
At 19, Beraldo has already begun to prove his worth as a top centre-half in Brazilian football. However, only time will tell whether he can make a smooth transition to life in Spain if Barcelona manage to get him on board in 2024.
We can expect Beraldo to add more bite and steel to Xavi’s defence. He might even help the Catalan club challenge across all fronts in the coming seasons.
The Brazilian defender is undoubtedly a prospect to watch out for in the future. Hence, Xavi would be wise to try everything in his power to lure him to the Nou Camp in the January transfer window.
