In a recent report, Fichajes mentioned that Barcelona are hoping to land Bayer 04 Leverkusen full-back Alejandro Grimaldo next year. It has been revealed that the Catalan club are eager to bring their former youth player back to the Nou Camp in 2024.
Grimaldo’s Impressive Form In German Football This Season
The 28-year-old had made a decent start to this campaign after putting in a run of impressive displays on the left side of Leverkusen’s defence. Grimaldo has found the back of the net on two occasions and grabbed four assists in nine matches for the German club this season across all fronts.
The Spanish talent has given a good account of himself on the left flank based on his average of 2.8 tackles, 0.7 interceptions, 1.2 clearances, 1.8 shots, 1.3 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in Bundesliga. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball from the left-back position after completing 86.4% of his attempted passes in the German top tier (stats via whoscored),
Grimaldo is under contract at Leverkusen until the summer of 2027. Hence, Barcelona will have to launch a big move if they want to recruit him next year.
Is Grimaldo A Decent Choice For Barcelona Boss Xavi?
Grimaldo is a solid tackler of the ball and can earn the ball back for his team when he is playing well on the pitch. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed and can strike the ball with power from long range.
The Spanish full-back can even engineer a handful of promising chances in the final third. He is primarily a left-back but can also fill in as a left-winger if required.
Grimaldo would undoubtedly enhance the quality of Barcelona boss Xavi’s squad. He is good enough to offer some serious competition for Alejandro Balde at the Nou Camp next season.
All in all, the Bayer Leverkusen star would be an excellent choice for the Catalan giants to pursue this January or at the end of this campaign. At 28, he is in his prime and would make an immediate impact at Barcelona if Xavi manages to land him soon.
