In a recent report, Fichajes stated that Barcelona are facing tough competition for Red Bull Leipzig winger Xavi Simons who is currently playing on loan from Paris Saint-Germain. It has been claimed that the Catalan will have to rival Chelsea and Manchester United in the race to sign the Dutch wide player next year.
Simons’ Good Run Of Form At The Red Bull Arena
Simons has been a reliable performer on the right side of Leipzig’s attack during this campaign. The Amsterdam-born talent has done well to score three goals and secure four assists in 11 matches for the German club this season in all competitions.
The 20-year-old has been a consistent performer on the attacking end of the pitch based on his average of 2.0 shots, 1.3 key passes and 1.3 dribbles per 90 minutes in Bundesliga. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball after making 80.5% of his attempted passes in the top tier of German football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at his parent club Paris Saint-Germain will expire in the summer of 2027. Thus, it won’t be easy for Barcelona to sign on the cheap next year.
Barcelona Are Facing Tough Competition For Simons: Is He Worth The Fight?
Simons is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and can create a few inviting chances for his teammates in the final third. He can shoot the ball with power and accuracy from long range.
More importantly, the Dutch sensation can contribute by scoring and creating his fair share of goals up top. He is primarily a right-winger but can also function as a left-sided wide player or play in the number ten position if told to do so by his manager.
We can expect Simons to bring more goals and creativity to Barcelona head coach Xavi’s attack. He has what it takes to earn a regular starting spot at the Nou Camp next year.
At 20, Simons has got a bright future ahead of him as long as he continues to improve with each season. Hence, Xavi would be wise to try everything in his power to lure him to the Catalan club in the January transfer window or next summer.
