In a recent report, Mundo Deportivo mentioned that Barcelona are eyeing a move for Brighton and Hove Albion winger Kaoru Mitoma. It has been claimed that the Catalan club are hoping to secure the services of the Japan international next year.
Mitoma’s Decent Run Of Form In Premier League Football
Mitoma is having another impressive campaign at the American Express Community Stadium as he has put in a series of eye-catching displays on the left side of Roberto De Zerbi’s attack. The 26-year-old has found the back of the net on three occasions and earned four assists in 11 appearances for the Seagulls this season across all fronts.
The Japanese sensation was a decent performer in the final third based on his average of 1.8 shots, 2.0 interceptions and 1.9 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He was even tidy when distributing possession in the opponent’s half based on his pass completion rate of 83.8% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Brighton will expire in 2025 which could open the door for Barcelona to sign him on a cut-price deal next summer.
What Will Mitoma Add To Barcelona Head Coach Xavi’s Team?
Mitoma is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make a few promising runs with the ball out in the wide areas. He can create some decent plays for his teammates up top and can even strike the ball with venom from all ranges.
The Japanese talent can contribute by scoring and creating his fair share of goals in the final third. He is currently one of the first names in de Zerbi’s teamsheet.
We can expect Mitoma to add more pace and goals to Barcelona‘s frontline. He is good enough to challenge for a regular starting spot at the Nou Camp.
Thus, it makes sense for Barca boss Xavi to engineer a move to bring the Brighton star to Spain at the end of this campaign. At 26, Mitoma has his prime years ahead of him which makes him a worthy target for the Catalan outfit to consider next summer. However, it remains to be seen whether the Japanese sensation can maintain his good form in La Liga if Barca manage to get him on board soon.
