In a recent report, Football Insider journalist Pete O’Rourke revealed that Aston Villa are leading the race for Norwich City attacker Jonathan Rowe. It is understood that the Villans are in pole position to land the English wide player.
Rowe’s Impressive Rise At Carrow Road
Rowe is enjoying his football at the English club as he has put in a run of productive displays for them in the final third. The 20-year-old has scored seven goals and earned a couple of assists in 13 matches for Norwich this season across multiple competitions.
The English talent has been a decent performer in the opposition half and deserves a ton of credit for averaging 2.3 shots, 1.2 key passes and 1.0 dribbles per 90 minutes in the EFL Championship. However, he has lacked quality when interchanging possession with his teammates in the final third after completing 75.7% of his attempted passes in the second tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
Rowe’s current contract at Carrow Road will expire in the summer of 2025. Hence, it makes sense for the Villans to move in for him this January or at the end of this campaign.
Should Aston Villa Boss Unai Emery Go For Rowe?
Rowe is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make a few driving runs with the ball out on the flanks. He has got the eye to play some decisive passes on the attacking third of the pitch and can even shoot the ball with venom from long range.
The English talent is primarily a left-winger but can also operate as a right wide player or play in the number ten position if asked to do so.
We can expect Rowe to bring more quality to Aston Villa boss Unai Emery’s squad. He is already good enough to compete for a regular starting spot at Villa Park next year.
However, it remains to be seen whether the Norwich City wing wizard can make a smooth transition to life in top-flight football. Still, at 20, the future is quite promising for the English wide player, so the West Midlands club should consider going for him when the transfer window commences at the start of January.
