In a recent report, Calciomercato mentioned that Arsenal midfielder Jorginho is gathering interest from Juventus. It has been stated that the Turin outfit are hoping to sign the Italian talent from the Gunners in 2024.
Jorginho’s Sporadic Role In North London This Season
The 31-year-old has proven himself to be a valuable presence in Mikel Arteta‘s squad but has often found himself behind Declan Rice, Thomas Partey and Kai Havertz in Arsenal’s pecking order.
Jorginho has made eight appearances for the Gunners this season in all competitions. The Italian talent has been a regular feature off Arteta’s bench which could be why he is only averaging 0.7 tackles, 0.2 interceptions and 0.2 clearances per game in Premier League football. He has been accurate when distributing the ball from midfield after completing 93.8% of his attempted passes in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Emirates Stadium will expire at the end of this campaign. Hence, it is only logical for Arteta to cash in on the Italian talent and use the money generated from his potential sale to bring in a suitable replacement this January.
Should Arsenal Head Coach Mikel Arteta Cash In On Jorginho?
Jorginho is a tough-tackling midfielder who can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually clears his lines when the opposition are on the front foot and excels at playing his way out from midfield. Jorginho is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also fill in as a box-to-box midfielder if told to do so by his manager.
The Italy international is an expert at converting penalties. However, his role has been limited to making appearances as a substitute at Arsenal.
Therefore, it makes sense for both the player and the North London club to part ways with each other when the transfer window opens at the start of next year.
At 31, Jorginho is a player on the decline and is currently surplus to requirements at the Emirates Stadium. Thus, Arteta should consider cashing in on him this winter rather than risk losing him as a free agent at the end of this campaign.
