In a recent report, The Evening Standard revealed that Arsenal are set to rival Chelsea for Brentford striker Ivan Toney. It has been stated that the Gunners are hoping to bolster their attack by recruiting the English forward from the Bees this winter.
Toney’s Impressive Numbers In The Premier League Last Season
Toney enjoyed a terrific spell at Brentford last season when he produced a string of impressive performances as the focal point of their attack. The 27-year-old banged in 21 goals and earned five assists in 35 matches for the Bees in the previous campaign on all fronts.
The English forward led the line well by averaging 2.8 shots, 0.8 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. However, he needs to figure out a way to improve his link-up play up top based on his pass completion rate of 62% in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the English club will expire in the summer of 2025. Thus, the Gunners will have to make a convincing offer if they want to recruit the Brentford star in the upcoming January transfer window.
What Will Toney Bring To Arsenal?
Toney excels at creating some space for himself to get a few strikes in on-target. The English sensation can be a decent finisher in front of the opponent’s goal when he is playing with confidence on the pitch. He has even got the vision to engineer a few promising chances in the final third.
Toney can make some clever runs with the ball in and around the opposition penalty box but needs to work on improving his passing accuracy up top.
We can expect Toney to bring more firepower to Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta‘s attack. He has what it takes to help the Gunners compete across all competitions in the coming seasons.
At 27, Toney is about to enter his prime soon, so the North London club can expect to unlock the best out of him over the next few years. He already knows the Premier League well by now and won’t take much time to settle into life at the Emirates Stadium if Arteta can devise a way to bring him on board when the transfer window reopens at the start of next year.
