In a recent print edition, Mundo Deportivo stated that Arsenal are among the clubs hoping to land Red Bull Leipzig star Daniel Olmo. It has been claimed that the Gunners could face competition in the form of Chelsea in pursuit of the Spanish playmaker.
Olmo’s Impressive Run Of Form In The Bundesliga This Season
Olmo has made an impressive start to this campaign after putting in a series of decent displays for Leipzig in the final third. The former Barcelona youngster featured in four matches for the German outfit this season, scoring five goals and grabbing one assist in all competitions.
The 25-year-old has been a positive influence in the opponent’s half based on his average of 0.7 tackles, 1.0 interceptions, 2.0 shots, 1.3 key passes and 1.7 dribbles per game in the Bundesliga. He has even been accurate when interchanging possession with his teammates as evidenced by his pass success rate of 80% in the German top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the German club will run out in the summer of 2027. Hence, the Gunners will have to pay a hefty fee if they want to recruit Olmo next year.
Is Olmo A Decent Fit For Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta?
Olmo is a decent playmaker in the final third as he has got the eye to unlock the opponent’s defence with a killer pass up top. He is a good dribbler with the ball as well and can even generate a lot of power with his shot attempts.
The Spanish talent mainly functions as an attacking midfielder but can also operate as a winger on either flank if told to do so by his manager.
We can expect Olmo to bring more goals and creativity to Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta‘s attack. He will also add some healthy competition for Martin Odegaard and Kai Havertz for a regular starting spot at the Emirates Stadium in the coming years.
With all things considered, someone with Olmo’s skillset would be a great fit for the North London club‘s needs and could help them compete for some major trophies in the not-too-distant future.
