In a recent report, Ideal revealed that West Ham United were eager to sign Manchester United left-back Alvaro Fernandez who is currently playing on loan at Granada. It has been stated that Hammers along with Burnley were showing interest in the Spanish defender earlier this year.
Fernandez’s Impressive Loan Spell At Preston Last Season
Fernandez had a decent loan spell at Preston North End last season as he put in a handful of eye-catching displays of the left side of their backline. The Ferrol-born talent picked up six assists in 42 appearances for the English outfit in the previous campaign across multiple competitions.
The Spanish sensation gave a good account of himself at both ends of the field by averaging 1.7 tackles, 1.1 interceptions, 1.1 clearances, 0.7 shots, 0.9 key passes and 1.3 dribbles per 90 minutes in the EFL Championship. However, he was a bit inaccurate with his ball distribution after completing only 69.1% of his attempted passes in the second tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
Fernandez is under contract at his parent club Manchester United until 2024. Hence, the Hammers could potentially land him on a free transfer next summer if they decide to go back in for him.
Should West Ham United Boss David Moyes Go Back In For Fernandez?
Fernandez is a solid tackler of the ball and can make a few important interceptions for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball to clear the danger when required and can also make a few driving runs with the ball on the left flank.
The Spanish prospect is a decent dribbler who can also deliver some decent service to his teammates up top. He can strike the ball well from long range as well but needs to improve his passing accuracy if he wants to prove his worth in Premier League football someday.
At 20, Fernandez has the potential to become a future star in English football. Hence, it makes sense for West Ham boss David Moyes to go back in for him next year.
Fernandez has what it takes to challenge for a regular starting spot at the London Stadium next season. Plus, he would be a great, long-term signing for the Hammers if Moyes can devise a way to bring him to the English capital in the future.
