In a recent report, The Daily Mail’s Transfer Confidential claimed that West Ham United are set to offer Jesse Lingard a contract. It has been stated that the Hammers are bring the English talent back to the London Stadium this month.
Lingard’s Struggles At Nottingham Last Season
Lingard experienced an inconsistent campaign at Nottingham Forest recently as he struggled to be productive for them in the final third. The 30-year-old found the back of the net twice and earned two assists in 20 matches for the English outfit last season in multiple competitions.
The English playmaker struggled to catch the eye after he only averaged 0.6 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.4 dribbles per game in the Premier League. However, he was accurate when distributing possession in the opponent’s half, based on his pass completion rate of 81.2% in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
Lingard is currently a free agent after he was released by Nottingham Forest earlier this summer. Thus, it makes sense for West Ham to offer him a chance to prove his worth once again in the Premier League.
Will Lingard Be A Good Signing For West Ham United Boss David Moyes?
Lingard can shoot the ball with power and accuracy from long range and has got the eye to play a few decisive passes on the attacking end of the field when he is playing well on the pitch. The English playmaker is a decent dribbler with the ball as well.
Lingard is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also function as a winger if needed. Things just didn’t work out for him at Nottingham last season. However, Lingard can definitely benefit from rejoining West Ham this month as he looks to get his career back on track.
Lingard had a fruitful loan spell with the Hammers during his time at Manchester United. He banged in nine goals and grabbed five assists in 16 matches for the East London club across all fronts.
We can expect Lingard to add some firepower to David Moyes’ attack. He would no doubt strengthen the quality of West Ham‘s squad. The English attacker might even help the Hammers compete for European football in the Premier League this season. Hence, he would be a good, low-risk signing for West Ham to pull off this month.
