In a recent report, The Sun mentioned that West Ham United defender Nayef Aguerd is on the radar of Manchester City. It is understood that the Mancunian club are showing interest in recruiting the Moroccan sensation from the Hammers next year.
Aguerd’s Impressive Form In Premier League Football Last Season
Aguerd enjoyed a solid campaign at the London Stadium recently as he put in a series of impressive displays for West Ham on the defensive third of the pitch. The 27-year-old featured in 30 matches for the East London outfit last season, scoring two goals across multiple competitions.
The Moroccan talent was a rock at the back based on his average of 1.5 tackles, 1.0 interceptions and 4.3 clearances per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He even distributed possession relatively well from inside his half, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 78.9% in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at West Ham will run out in the summer of 2027. Thus, David Moyes will be under no pressure to let him leave in January or at the end of this campaign.
Can West Ham United Boss David Moyes Afford To Lose Aguerd?
Aguerd is a decent tackler of the ball and can make a few important interceptions for his team inside his half. He doesn’t hesitate to put his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the offensive.
The Moroccan talent can use his strong 1.90m frame to win his fair share of aerial duels and is even proficient at playing his way out from the back. He can play in both centre-half positions as well.
Aguerd has proved himself to be one of the most influential players in West Ham head coach David Moyes’ squad. He has done well to nail down a regular starting spot at the East London club.
Aguerd is good enough to help the Hammers compete for a European spot in the Premier League once again this season. Thus, Moyes simply cannot afford to lose his star defender next year. West Ham would be better off keeping hold of Aguerd for the duration of his contract which runs out in 2027.
