In a recent report, Sport Klub revealed that Tottenham Hotspur wide player Ivan Perisic could leave the London club this January. It has been claimed that Spurs could cash in on the Croatia international after failing to ship him out earlier this summer.
Perisic’s Important Role In North London
Perisic enjoyed a decent campaign at Tottenham Hotspur recently as he served as an valuable presence in their squad. The 34-year-old has already made five appearances for Spurs this season, picking up one assist in the process across all competitions.
The Split-born talent has seen most of his game time come off the bench which explains why he only averaged 1.0 key passes and 1.0 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He was been careful when distributing possession from the left flank after completing 81.1% of his attempted passes in the English top-flight (stats via whoscored).
His current deal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will run out at the end of this campaign. Thus, it makes sense for Spurs head coach Angelos Postecoglu to cash in on the Croatia international during the January transfer window or else risk losing him on a free transfer next summer.
Should Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglu Cut Perisic Loose This Winter?
Perisic remains a decent dribbler with the ball and can use his experience to get the better of his marker out in the wide areas. He has got the vision to create a few inviting chances for others around him in the opponent’s half.
The Croatia international can even shoot the ball with venom from long range. He is primarily a left-sided wide player but can also function as a right-winger if needed. Perisic also works hard for his team when defending inside his half. However, father time is slowly catching up with his game.
Still, Perisic is currently serving as a crucial player in Angelos Postecoglu’s squad at the North London club.
At 34, he is entering the twilight years of his playing career. Thus, it is only logical for Tottenham to cut Perisic loose this winter and reinvest the money generated from his potential sale to strengthen their match-day squad for the future.
