Lo Celso’s Recent Loan Spell At Villarreal
Lo Celso experienced an up-and-down loan spell at Villarreal last season when he put in a few eye-catching displays for them in the final third. The Argentine sensation featured in 29 matches for the Spanish outfit in the previous campaign, finding the back of the net twice and earning three assists in all competitions.
The 27-year-old was a reliable performer in the opponent’s half and did well to average 1.4 shots, 1.4 key passes and 1.0 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga. He even distributed the ball accurately on the attacking end of the field based on his pass success rate of 86.5% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Tottenham Hotspur will run out in the summer of 2025. Thus, Spurs boss Angelos Postecoglu is under no immediate pressure to cash in on him this month.
Should Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglu Cut Lo Celso Loose?
Lo Celso is a technically gifted playmaker who has got the vision to orchestrate a few promising chances for his teammates up top. He is a decent dribbler with the ball and can shoot the ball with venom and precision from long range. Lo Celso primarily plays in the number ten position but can also operate as a box-to-box midfielder or as a right-winger if asked to do so by his manager.
However, things have not worked out for the Argentine talent at Tottenham. Thus, it makes sense for him to seal a move elsewhere in search of more game time in the coming seasons.
At the moment, Lo Celso is playing a sporadic role in Tottenham head coach Angelos Postecoglu’s match-day squad.
Therefore, Spurs should consider cutting the Argentine sensation loose if they receive a fair offer for his services. The North London club could use the money generated from Lo Celso’s potential sale to strengthen other areas of their squad when the transfer window reopens this January.
