In a recent report, Football.London claimed that Tottenham Hotspur could move in for Chelsea ace Trevoh Chalobah this January. It has been stated Spurs are eyeing a move for the English centre-back after failing to sign him on loan earlier this summer.
Chalobah’s Difficult Season In The Premier League
Chalobah had a tough campaign at the West London club last season when he struggled to help them be consistent in the Premier League. The 24-year-old made 34 appearances for the Blues in the previous campaign but failed to score or create a goal for them across all competitions.
The English sensation was a solid presence on the defensive end of the field as he averaged 1.2 tackles, 1.0 interceptions and 2.2 clearances per game in Premier League football. He was even tidy when distributing possession from the back after completing 88.5% of his attempted passes in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the London club will expire in the summer of 2028. Thus, it won’t be easy for Spurs to recruit Chalobah on the cheap during the winter transfer window.
Is Chalobah A Good Fit For Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglu?
Chalobah is a good tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind clearing his lines when the opposition are on the front foot and excels at playing his way out from the back. Chalobah mainly functions as a central defender but can also fill in as a right-back if asked to do so by his manager.
Standing at 1.92m, the English sensation can be a dominant presence in the air as well when he is playing with confidence on the pitch. Hence, we can expect him to bring more bite and steel to Tottenham boss Angelos Postecoglu’s defence.
At 24, Chalobah has got his best years ahead of him which makes him a decent fit for the North London club‘s needs in the long run. He is good enough to earn a regular starting spot at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next year and could help Postecoglu’s side get back to challenging for a top-four spot in the Premier League soon.
