In a recent segment on Youtube, journalist Alastair Gold stated that Tottenham Hotspur could move in for Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly this January. When asked about Spurs’ interest in the player, Gold said,
“I think Kelly more so because I could understand the logic behind that move.
“He is pacy. He has the homegrown status as well. I could maybe see that (in January).”
Kelly’s Impressive Form In The Premier League Last Season
Kelly had a decent campaign at the Vitality Stadium recently after he put in a series of solid performances at the heart of Bournemouth’s backline. The Bristol-born talent made 24 appearances for the Cherries last season, picking up a couple of assists in the process across all competitions.
The English defensive ace gave a good account of himself when defending inside his half as he averaged 1.4 tackles, 1.1 interceptions and 4.3 clearances per 90 minutes in Premier League football. He was even accurate when distributing possession from the back based on his pass completion rate of 81.4% in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
What Will Kelly Bring To Tottenham Hotspur?
Kelly can get stuck in with some crunching tackles to make life tough for the opposition attackers. He can make a few timely interceptions for his team and doesn’t hesitate to put his foot through the ball when needed.
The English talent has got the pace to make recovering runs at the back and is even proficient at playing his way out from inside his half. He mainly operates as a central defender but can also fill in as a left-back if instructed to do so.
We can expect Kelly to bring more quality and pace to Tottenham head coach Angelos Postecoglu’s defence. He has what it takes to challenge for a regular starting spot at the North London club next year. The English defensive ace has already got plenty of experience in Premier League football.
At 24, Kelly will only improve as a footballer over the next few years. He might even help Tottenham compete across all fronts in the future. Hence, Spurs would be wise to go all out to lure him to the English capital when the transfer window reopens at the start of next year.
