In a recent report, Fichajes mentioned that Real Madrid are eager to sign Chelsea talent Ian Maatsen next year. It is understood that Los Blancos are hoping to acquire the services of the Dutch full-back in 2024.
Maatsen’s Excellent Loan Spell At Turf Moor
The 21-year-old had a great loan spell at Burnley last season as he put in a series of impressive displays for them on the left flank. Maatsen deserves a ton of credit for scoring four times and picking up six assists in 42 matches for the Clarets in the previous campaign across various competitions.
The Dutch sensation caught the eye in both halves and did well to average 2.0 tackles, 1.4 interceptions, 1.3 clearances, 0.9 shots, 1.0 key passes and 0.6 dribbles per game in the EFL Championship. He was even careful when distributing possession from the left flank after completing 83.5% of his attempted passes in the second tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
His current Chelsea contract will run out at the end of this campaign which could open the door for Real Madrid to sign him on the cheap next year.
Should Real Madrid Head Coach Carlo Ancelotti Get Maatsen On Board?
Maatsen is a decent tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to make some timely interceptions for his side inside his half. He doesn’t mind clearing his lines when the opposition are on the offensive. Maatsen mainly plays as a left-back but can also operate as a left-sided wide player if instructed to do so by his manager.
The Dutch sensation is a good dribbler with the ball and can also create a few inviting chances for his teammates in the final third. He can even shoot the ball with power from long range.
Hence, Maatsen would be a great signing for Los Blancos in 2024 as long as they can land him on a cut-price deal. He is good enough to fight for a regular starting spot at Real Madrid next season.
At 21, Maatsen has the potential to become a future star at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. Therefore, Carlo Ancelotti should try everything in his power to lure the Chelsea full-back to the Spanish capital this January or at the end of this season.
