In a recent column on the Daily Briefing, renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed that Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes is close to extending his contract. Romano wrote,
“Negotiations are at an advanced stage for Bruno Guimaraes to sign a new contract.”
Guimaraes’ Good Run Of Form In The Premier League
The Brazilian talent enjoyed a decent season at the Tyneside club recently after helping them earn a top-four finish in Premier League football. Guimaraes participated in 40 matches for Newcastle United in the previous campaign, scoring five times and securing five assists across all fronts.
The Brazil international was a solid performer in both halves as he averaged 2.4 tackles, 1.1 interceptions, 0.6 clearances, 0.9 shots, 1.3 key passes and 1.4 dribbles per game in the 2022-23 Premier League season. He was even careful when distributing the ball from midfield as evidenced by his pass success rate of 84.6% in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
Guimaraes’ current deal at St. James’ Park will run out in the summer of 2026. Hence, Newcastle would be wise to tie him down to a longer contract and give me a pay rise in the process.
Guimaraes Is Close To Extending His Newcastle United Contract: Good Move For Everyone Involved?
Guimaraes is a good tackler of the ball and usually clears the danger when needed. He can make a few timely interceptions for his team in the middle of the park and can also create a few inviting chances for his teammates in the final third.
Guimaraes is primarily a holding midfielder but can also fill in as a box-to-box midfielder if asked to do so.
The Brazilian sensation is a technically gifted footballer who can strike the ball with venom from long range. He is a decent dribbler with the ball as well.
Hence, it is a no-brainer for Newcastle to extend Guimaraes’ contract this year. He has played some of his best football at St. James’ Park and remains one of the most important members of Howe’s squad.
With all things considered, Guimaraes’ contract extension would be a good move for both the player and the Tyneside club as they look to strive for more success together in English football.
