In a recent report, The Daily Telegraph revealed that Newcastle United midfield ace Bruno Guimaraes is gathering interest from Real Madrid. It has been stated that the Magpies are hoping to tie the Brazilian talent down to a new contract with Los Blancos and Liverpool keeping tabs on the player.
Guimaraes’ Recent Form In The Premier League
Guimaraes has experienced a difficult start to this Premier League campaign at the Tyneside club but has put in a few solid displays at the heart of Eddie Howe’s midfield. The 25-year-old has been involved in four matches for the Magpies this season in various competitions.
The Brazilian sensation has been a positive influence at both ends of the pitch and has done well to average 2.3 tackles, 0.5 clearances, 1.0 shots, 0.8 key passes and 1.0 dribbles per game in Premier League football. He has even been distributed the ball relatively well based on his pass completion rate of 88% in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at St. James’ Park will expire in the summer of 2026. Hence, Eddie Howe is under no pressure to cash in on him this January.
Should Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe Cash In On Guimaraes?
Guimaraes is a good tackler of the ball and can make life tough for the opposition in the middle of the park. He can shoot the ball with power from long range and can even create some decent plays for his teammates in the final third.
The Brazilian talent is also proficient at making a few intelligent runs with the ball from midfield. He mainly functions as a holding midfielder but can also operate as a box-to-box midfielder if asked to do so.
Guimaraes is currently one of the first names in Newcastle boss Eddie Howe‘s teamsheet. At 25, he has his best years ahead of him. Thus, the Magpies should not consider cashing in on him if a top club like Real Madrid and Liverpool comes in for him in the January transfer window.
The Tyneside club would be better off keeping hold of Guimaraes’ services for the long run as he could help them compete for some major trophies in the coming seasons.
