In a recent report, IG Esporte stated that Newcastle United are showing interest in Corinthians midfielder Gabriel Moscardo. However, it is believed that the Magpies could face competition in the form of Chelsea, Manchester United and Barcelona in the race to land the Brazilian whizkid.
Moscardo’s Rapid Rise In Brazilian Football
The 17-year-old has come through the youth ranks of Corinthians and has done well to break out as a first-team starter for them recently. Moscardo has already made 14 senior appearances for the Brazilian club but is still waiting to score or assist his first goal for them.
The talented teenager has caught the eye with his performances at the centre of Corinthians’ midfield based on his average of 2.3 tackles, 0.9 interceptions, 1.3 clearances and 1.2 dribbles per 90 minutes in Brasileirao. He has even been excellent when distributing the ball from midfield after making 84.5% of his attempted passes in the top tier of Brazilian football (stats via whoscored).
His current deal with the Brazilian club will run out in the summer of 2026. Thus, the Magpies will have to launch a big offer if they want to win the race for his services.
Newcastle United Are Showing Interest In Moscardo: Is He A Prospect For The Future?
Moscardo is a tough-tackling midfielder who can read the danger well to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t hesitate to put his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot.
The Brazilian prospect can even make a few driving runs with the ball from midfield. He is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also function as a box-to-box midfielder or as an attacking midfielder if needed.
Moscardo will no doubt be a great signing for the Magpies in the long run. At 17, the future looks quite promising for the Brazilian as long as he can improve with each season.
All in all, there is no denying that Moscardo is a prospect to watch out for in the coming years. Hence, Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe should focus on getting a deal done for him when the transfer window commences this January or at the end of this campaign.
