In a recent report, Takvim revealed that Fenerbahce are preparing to move in for Arsenal midfielder Jorginho this month. It has been stated that the Turkish club are eager to sign the Italian talent from the Gunners with the Turkish transfer window still open.
Jorginho’s Decent Numbers At Arsenal Last Season
Jorginho was a useful presence in Mikel Arteta’s match-day squad last season when he put in a few solid displays in the Premier League. The 31-year-old has made a total of 19 appearances for the Gunners thus far, picking up one assist in the process across all competitions.
The Italian sensation anchored the midfield well at times by averaging 1.3 tackles, 0.6 interceptions and 0.6 dribbles per 90 minutes in Premier League football. He was even accurate when distributing possession from midfield after making 87.6% of his attempted passes in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the London club will run out next summer. Thus, it makes sense for Arsenal to cash in on him soon or else risk losing him as a free agent in 2024.
Can Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta Afford To Lose Jorginho?
Jorginho is a solid tackler of the ball and can make a few timely interceptions for his side inside his half. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot. The Italian talent is a tidy passer as well and is famous for scoring his penalties. However, he can be a bit slow to react to the danger and lacks the pace to make recovering runs at the back.
Jorginho mainly functions as a defensive midfielder but can also play as a box-to-box midfielder if asked to do so by his manager. Hence, he could still serve as an important member of Arteta’s squad this season.
At the moment, the Gunners simply cannot afford to lose Jorginho after Thomas Partey’s recent injury. The Italian midfield ace’s exit would no doubt reduce the depth of Arteta‘s squad.
With all things considered, the North London club should consider keeping hold of Jorginho until the end of this campaign as he has got the experience to help them compete for some major honours over the next eight months.
