In a recent report, i News claimed that Everton have received an £8m offer from Al-Ettifaq for Demarai Gray. It has been revealed that the Toffees have a chance to cash in on the Jamaican wide player with Steven Gerrard’s side eager to snap him up this month.
Gray’s Difficult Season In English Football
The 27-year-old endured a tough campaign at the Merseyside club after struggling to perform at a high level for them in Premier League football. Still, Gray did well to find the back of the net six times and pick up one assist in 36 matches for the Toffees last season in multiple competitions.
The Birmingham-born talent was a real menace in the final third based on his average of 1.8 shots, 1.1 key passes and 1.0 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He was even accurate when distributing possession in the opposition half as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 81.3% in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
Gray is under contract at Everton until the end of this campaign. Hence, it is only logical for Sean Dyche to try and cash in on him soon or risk losing him when he becomes a free agent next summer.
What Should Everton Head Coach Sean Dyche Do With Regards To Gray?
Gray has got the eye to play a few decisive passes in the final third and remains a good dribbler with the ball at his feet. He can use his pace well to cause a lot of headaches for his marker out in the wide areas.
The Jamaican attacker can even strike the ball with power and conviction from long range. He mainly functions as a left-winger but can also operate as a right-sided wide player or play down the middle as a striker if instructed to do so.
Gray remains an important member of Everton‘s squad. However, he has fallen out of favour with Sean Dyche. Furthermore, he is on an expiring contract at the Merseyside club. Thus, it makes sense for the Toffees to sell him for £8m to Al-Ettifaq this month so that Dyche can use that money to strengthen his squad when the English transfer window commences once again this January.
