In a recent press conference, (via Le Soir) Everton midfielder Amadou Onana offered an update on his future at the Merseyside club. Onana said,
“It’s not at all a missed opportunity.
“Football is all about timing. You have to know how to seize opportunities when they present themselves.
“I had changed clubs every summer transfer window in recent seasons, but sometimes you have to know how to slow down and be patient. Now I am fully focused on my task with Everton.”
Onana’s Recent Form At Everton
Onana played an important role for the Toffees in the previous campaign when he narrowly helped them avoid relegation from the Premier League. The 22-year-old has featured in five matches for Everton this season so far in the league.
The Belgian talent has been a decent performer at the heart of Sean Dyche’s midfield based on his average of 1.8 tackles, 0.5 interceptions, 1.0 clearances, 0.8 shots and 1.3 key passes per 90 minutes in Premier League football. He was even accurate when distributing possession from midfield as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 84.4% in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
Onana Is Focused On His Everton Career: Big Boost For Sean Dyche?
Onana loves a tackle and usually times his challenges well to make some timely interceptions for his team in the middle of the park. He doesn’t hesitate to clear his lines when the opposition are on the front foot and can also play a few decisive passes in the final third. The Belgian talent usually generates a lot of power with his shots from long-range. He is a tidy passer of the ball as well.
At the moment, Onana remains one of the most important members of Everton boss Sean Dyche‘s squad. He is good enough to help the Toffees steer clear of the relegation zone this season.
Thus, the fact that the player has publically revealed that he is focussing on his football at the Merseyside club will be a big boost for Dyche as he looks to get the club’s season back on track after the international break.
At 22, Onana will only improve with each year, so the Toffees would be wise to keep hold of him for the long run.
