In a recent report, The Belfast Telegraph revealed that Everton are facing tough competition for Glentoran whizkid George Feeney. It has been mentioned that the Toffees will have to rival Chelsea, Brighton and Hove Albion, Crystal Palace, West Ham United and Sheffield United in the race to sign the Newport-born prospect.
Feeney’s Impressive Rise In Northern Irish Football
Feeney has come through the youth ranks of Glentoran and has caught the eye with his performances in Northern Irish football.
The 15-year-old has done well to establish himself as an important player for Glentoran’s Under-18 side recently. He has led the line well for them and is currently amongst the best young players back in his homeland. However, the Northern Irish teenager is yet to break out as a first team starter at Glentoran.
Feeney has penned a youth contract with the Northern Irish outfit. However, it’s unclear when his contract will expire which could make it difficult for the Toffees to lure him to Goodison Park.
Everton Are Facing Tough Competition For George Feeney: Is He A Prospect For The Future?
Feeney has caught the eye with his performances as the focal point of Glentoran’s attack. He can find a yard of space for himself to get a few shot attempts in at goal. The Northern Irish youngster can even create some decent chances for others around him in the final third.
Feeney is usually quite clever with his movements in and around the opponent’s penalty box. However, he is still quite raw and would need time before he is ready to taste first-team football. Furthermore, the talented starlet has to figure out a way to improve his decision-making in front of the opposition goal.
Still, there is no denying that Feeney has the potential to become a future star at the highest level as long as he continues to develop his game with each year.
Hence, the Toffees would do well to win the chase to sign the Glentoran wonderkid. At 15, he is undoubtedly a prospect to watch out for in the future and would be a great signing for Everton boss Sean Dyche to pull off for the long run. However, Feeney would need plenty of time to adapt to the physical nature and high intensity of English football.
