According to a report from Football.London, Chelsea are still interested in selling Trevoh Chalobah in the January transfer window. There is a possibility that the 24-year-old will not play for the club again. Chalobah, who is still recovering from a hamstring injury, wanted to join Bayern Munich on loan at the end of the summer transfer window. However, Chelsea were only willing to sell him permanently which did not materialise before deadline day.
Chalobah’s Unimpressive Season With Chelsea
Chalobah had an unimpressive season with Chelsea in the 2022-2023 season. He made 35 appearances in all competitions, but he was often inconsistent and made some high-profile mistakes without being productive in the final third.
However, the English forward averaged 1.2 tackles, 1.0 interceptions and 2.2 clearances per game in the Premier League which speaks volume on his potential. He was also efficient in his ball distribution after completing 88.5% of his attempted passes in English top flight (stats via whoscored).
Should Pochettino Sanction His Exit?
Chalobah is a talented young defender who has made a good impression at Chelsea since making his debut in 2021. However, he has not been a regular starter this season due to the hamstring injury, and he has been linked with a move away from the club in January.
Chalobah is still young and inexperienced, but he has the potential to be a top defender. so Pochettino will need to decide if he believes that Chalobah can be a regular starter for Chelsea in the foreseeable future. Moreover, his contract at Stamford Bridge lasts until the summer of 2028, so the Blues are no rush whatsoever.
Nonetheless, Chalobah has reportedly been unhappy with his lack of playing time at the West London club so if he is determined to leave the club, Pochettino may have no choice but to sanction his exit in the next transfer window.
