In a recent report, Jose Alvarez on El Chiringuito TV mentioned that Barcelona are keeping a keen eye on Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich. It has been stated that the Catalan club are eager to acquire the services of the German international who is open to sealing a move to the Nou Camp.
Kimmich’s Impressive Form In Bundesliga This Season
Kimmich has made a good start to this season after putting in some impressive displays at the heart of Bayern’s midfield. The German talent has been involved in four matches for the German outfit during this campaign, picking up a couple of assists in the process across all fronts.
The 28-year-old has been a positive influence in both halves as he is averaging 1.3 tackles, 1.0 interceptions, 0.7 clearances, 2.0 shots, 4.0 crosses and 3.3 key passes per 90 minutes in Bundesliga. He has also been accurate when distributing possession from midfield based on his pass success rate of 91.4% in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Bavarian club will expire in the summer of 2025. Therefore, Barca could potentially land him on a cut-price deal at the end of this season.
Should Barcelona Head Coach Xavi Snap Kimmich Up Next Year?
Kimmich is a tough-tackling midfielder who can sense the danger quickly to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when required and is a decent crosser of the ball as well.
The German midfield ace can shoot the ball with venom from long range and has got the vision to engineer a few inviting chances for his teammates in the opposition half. He mainly plays as a defensive midfielder but can also function as a right-back or as a box-to-box midfielder if told to do so.
Kimmich would add plenty of bite and steel to Barcelona boss Xavi’s midfield. He would also help the Catalan club challenge for some major trophies over the next few years.
At 28, Kimmich is currently playing in his prime and has what it takes to make an instant impact at the Nou Camp. Therefore, Xavi would be wise to snap the Bayern Munich talent up at the end of this campaign.
