In a recent report, Sport stated that Barcelona are eyeing a move for Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi next summer. It has been claimed that the Catalan club are hoping to land the Nigerian sensation on a free transfer at the end of this campaign.
Ndidi’s Impressive Form In English Football This Season
Ndidi is having an impressive campaign at the King Power Stadium as he has put in a run of influential displays for the Foxes in the EFL Championship. The 26-year-old has registered three goals and picked up one assist in ten matches for Leicester this season on all fronts.
The Nigerian midfield ace has given a good account of himself by averaging 1.4 tackles, 0.6 interceptions, 0.5 clearances, 1.4 shots, 1.0 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per game in the English Championship. He has even distributed the ball relatively well after making 75.9% of his attempted passes in the second tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the East Midlands club will expire at the end of this campaign. Hence, it makes sense for Barca to try and sign him on a free transfer next summer.
Should Barcelona Boss Xavi Snap Ndidi Up Next Summer?
Ndidi is a tough-tackling midfielder who can sense the danger quickly to earn the ball back for his team at the centre of the park. He doesn’t hesitate to put his foot through the ball when needed and can strike the ball with power from long range.
The Nigeria international can create the odd chance for his teammates in the opponent’s half and is a good dribbler with the ball as well. He is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also play as a box-to-box midfielder or as a central defender if asked to do so by his manager.
We can expect Ndidi to bring more bite and steel to Barcelona boss Xavi’s midfield department. He has what it takes to serve as an important member of Barca‘s squad in the coming seasons. Thus, it is only logical for the Catalan club to snap him up on a free transfer when his contract at Leicester runs out at the end of this campaign.
