In a recent interview with Give Me Sport, journalist Dean Jones revealed that Aston Villa could reignite their interest in Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho. Jones said,
“It doesn’t feel like the sort of one that Tottenham are going to be looking for in the January window, from what I can tell at this stage, so I wouldn’t necessarily expect them to need to come back in for Jadon Sancho in a moment like that unless an easy loan or a really cheap deal opened up. Aston Villa, I’d say, is probably a bit more reasonable. We know that they’re going to be on the lookout again, for a player of that type, so I’d say that’s very plausible. But the big question for Jadon Sancho will be whether he even has a future within the Premier League or he needs to go back abroad again. I think that’s going to be the first thing that he has to address.”
Sancho’s Form In The Premier League Last Season
Sancho had an underwhelming campaign at Old Trafford recently as he struggled to find consistency for the Red Devils in the Premier League. The England international registered seven goals and three assists in 41 matches for Man United last season in multiple competitions.
The 23-year-old deserves some credit for averaging 0.8 shots, 1.7 key passes and 1.3 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He even distributed the ball relatively well in the opponent’s half after making 85% of his attempted passes in the English top flight (stats via whoscored).
Is Sancho A Good Choice For Aston Villa Boss Unai Emery?
Sancho is a good dribbler with the ball and can use his pace to cause a lot of headaches for his marker out in the wide areas. He has got the eye to play a few decisive passes in the final third and can shoot the ball with venom from long range.
However, the English talent needs to find a way to be more productive in front of the opponent’s goal. He mainly operates as a left-winger but can also play as a right-sided wide player or play in the number ten position if required.
Sancho would inject more firepower into Aston Villa head coach Unai Emery’s attack. He has what it takes to help the Villans compete for a European spot in the Premier League this season. Hence, the English talent would be a decent choice for the West Midlands club to consider in the January transfer window.
